Smart Citizen app is in constant evolution. Smart Citizen is a crowdfunded, crowdsourced and open source distributed sensor network. Smart Citizen compromises three technological layers:
- Smart Citizen Kit: is a piece of hardware comprised by two printed-circuit boards: an interchangeable daughterboard or shield, and an arduino-compatible data- processing board. The sensor board carries sensors that measure air composition (CO and NO2), temperature, light intensity, sound levels, and humidity. Once itÕs set up, the ambient board is able to stream data measured by the sensors over Wi-Fi using the FCC-certified, wireless module on the data-processing board.
- Smart Citizen platform: The online component of the Smart Citizen Kit is used for logging and visualizing the data measured by the hardware. Once the device is set up, you can navigate to the website and visualize your measurements, share your data with others, and view what other users in your community or around the world are reporting. You can also query our Application Programming Interface (API) to instantly access the datastream from your device(s).
- Smart Citizen mobile App: The third layer of the project is a mobile app, which allows you to communicate with the physical hardware over an easy-to-use, native application on your smartphone.
The mobile app will have the following features:
- Mobile and dynamic data capturing and streaming: using your smartphone GPS and 3G (4G or LTE) connection, you will be able to capture data anywhere and anytime. Using a easy to setup menu, you will be able to pair your Smart Citizen kit with your phone, attach it to your bike or backpack, and start to stream data of environmental conditions of your frequent routs for mountain biking, jogging or moving in the city. Once you make your logging, you automatically save your maps in your Smart Citizen profile.
- Closest sensor data: you will be able to navigate in the city and get data from the closest Smart Citizen kits, having more resolution of the environmental conditions of your neighborhood, street or plaza. The app uses an algorith to track the closest data sources to you!
- Photo stream: Similar to InstaWeather, you can take a picture in the park, the bus stop or while in the beach and overlap data from the sensors you select and share it in Facebook, Twitter, G+, email or save it your phone.
- Sensor Navigation: as is in the platform, you can navigate in to a map filled with Smart Citizen sensors in order to check available data and take decisions about where to go for a picnic, avoid gas concentrations or go to a quiet area in the city.
- Smart Citizen setup: one of the main features of the app. You will be able to setup your SCK wifi access, by adding the desired SSID and password in order to start streaming data anywhere!
